Natural antioxidant from eggshell membraine proteins

Did you know that every day your body generates dramatically free radicals? Those free radicals are waste substances produced by cells as the body processes activities like food digestions, physical excises, or reacts to the environment (e.g., UV or heat exposure, etc.). If the body cannot eliminate or remove those free radicals efficiently, oxidative stress can occur. This stress can harm cells and body functions. Free radicals are also known as reactive oxygen species (ROS). Oxidative stress has been linked to neuron degeneration, heart diseases, cancer, arthritis, immune deficiency, Parkinson’s disease, and other inflammatory or ischemic conditions. Antioxidants are substances that can prevent or slow damage to cells caused by ROS, unstable molecules that the body produces as a reaction to environmental and other pressures.

It is hypothesized eggshell membrane hydrolysates has antioxidative effects due to widely used in skin care and wound healing. EGGXPERT has performed Antioxidant assays with both human keratinocytes and fibroblasts, which are main cell types in skin tissue. Two different sample compositions were prepared in two different biocompatible concentrations (namely 5 and 10 mg/mL).

Primary human keratinocytes - Antioxidant assay

At the concentration of 10 mg/mL, both sample 1 and 2 reduced ROS production of about 60% and 80% respectively in the primary human keratinocytes treated with standard oxidant.

Primary human fibroblasts - Antioxidant assay

Both compounds have shown a similar profile on primary fibroblasts, with around 15% and 30% inhibition of ROS production at 5 mg/mL and 10 mg/mL, respectively.

Conclusions: The compounds exhibit an antioxidant effect on both two primary cell types, with a more potent effect of sample 2 (EGGXPERT’s formula) on keratinocytes.
